Upgrade the RAM in your Mac Pro to maximize performance with the Apple 256GB DDR4 LR-DIMM ECC Memory Module Kit.
The Mac Pro (2019) has a six-channel memory controller that supports 12 slots. All memory that comes included with your Mac Pro will be 2933 MHz, although the 8-core model will be limited to 2666 MHz. It is recommended that you use Apple-approved memory to ensure there are no compatibility issues.
There are several requirements when it comes to upgrading the RAM in your Mac Pro:
- 2933 MHz DDR4 full-length 288-pin DIMM
- Error-correcting code (ECC)
- Registered (R-DIMM) or Load-Reduced DIMM (LR-DIMM)Note: Do not mix R-DIMMs and LR-DIMMs. Mixing R-DIMMs and LR-DIMMs will result in a memory error flash of the status indicator light when you turn on the Mac Pro.
- The 8-core model can have a max of 768GB of RAM and runs at 2666 MHz
- The 12-core model can have a max of 768GB of RAM and runs at 2933 MHz
- The 16-core model can have a max of 768GB of RAM and runs at 2933 MHz
- The 24-core model can have a max of 1.5TB of RAM and runs at 2933 MHz
- The 28-core model can have a max of 1.5TB of RAM and runs at 2933 MHz
- R-DIMMs are designed for configurations up to 192GB (6 x 32GB)
- LR-DIMMs are designed for configurations up to 384GB (6 x 64GB) or more
